Remix an app

You will take someone else’s app, create your own copy, and open it in the editor to customize. Remixing duplicates the full app design — components, prompts, and settings — into a new app you own.

  • An OnMicro.AI account. You can sign up during the remix flow if you do not have one yet.
  • A public app that allows remixing. The app owner must have Allow others to clone this app enabled (this is on by default for most apps).

Browse the Public MicroApps Library at onmicro.ai/library.

  1. Scroll the list of featured public apps.
  2. Read the descriptions and pick one that fits what you want to build on.
  3. Click Launch App on a card to open it.

You can also remix from any public app link someone shared with you, as long as cloning is allowed.

Checkpoint: The app opens on its run screen with the app title and description at the top.

Walk through the app as a learner would. Confirm it is close to what you want before you remix — your copy starts from the same design.

You do not need to finish the entire flow, but spend enough time to know the app is a good starting point.

A banner appears at the bottom of the screen:

Like this app? Create your own version by remixing it.

  1. Click Remix this app →.

The banner only appears when:

  • The app owner allows cloning, and
  • You are not the owner or admin of that app (owners editing their own app do not see it).

You can dismiss the banner with X if you are not ready to remix yet. It stays hidden for the rest of that browser session.

If cloning is disabled, the banner does not appear and remix is not available for that app.

If you are not logged in, OnMicro.AI sends you to the login page. Your remix is remembered.

  1. Sign in or create an account.
  2. After login, OnMicro.AI automatically creates your copy — you do not need to click Remix this app again.

If you were already logged in, your copy is created immediately when you click Remix this app.

After remix completes, you land on the run screen for your new app.

Checkpoint: Look for these signs you have your own copy:

  • The title ends with copy (for example, MCQ Generator copy).
  • Edit this app appears in the top-right corner of the run screen.
  • The remix banner is gone — you are now the owner.

Your copy also appears on your dashboard.

If remix fails (for example, you reached your account’s app limit), an error message appears. Resolve the issue and try again from the original app.

  1. Click Edit this app on the run screen.

You arrive on the Build tab for your copy. Everything from the original — components, AI prompts, and app settings — is yours to change.

Alternatively, find the app on your dashboard and click Edit.

Customize the copy so it fits your learners and context:

  1. Update App Details — rename the app (remove copy from the title) and write your own description.
  2. Adjust components or use App Builder to describe changes in plain language. See Edit an app.
  3. Review App settings — set Privacy Settings to Private while you work, then Public when you are ready to share. See Configure app settings.
  4. Click Preview to test your version before sharing.

You started from a public app, remixed it into your account, and opened your own editable copy. The original app is unchanged — you have an independent version to adapt and share.

Next: Share your version from the Share your app tutorial, or open the Share tab in the editor.

If you publish apps for others to learn from, keep Allow others to clone this app checked in App settings so visitors see the remix banner. Turn it off for apps you do not want copied. See Configure app settings.
